How do you get rid of spammers ?!?!?!
I’m starting to freak out already! I have come to a point where I brew a cup of calming tea and sit to block and delete them all. It becomes a task now π And it’s so annoying!
Obviously, WP can’t (or won’t) do anything about it, at least not while we’re on a free plan. That’s not cool, right? Does that mean that we are less worth having a good time on their platform? Not cool WP, not cool at all.
At first, it was like 5 spam a day, but now it reached 30, every single day. I have to schedule some time to remove it all. The worst thing is that some of the real comments end up there, too, so I have to go through them all. Lucky me I know how to enjoy my tasks, but still, it’s not fun anymore.
This is why I make sure that anybody that’s consuming my brand doesn’t experience this. I treat people the same, whether you pay for the item or you got it for free. That just feels right to me, but I guess WP is not on the same page π
Anyway, do you guys have this spam problem, as well? How do you cope with that? Is there anything we could do?
Because if this doesn’t stop, I will have to move my blogβ¦
π First, calm the fuck down even if YOUR!!! Mother PANICS!!!, second, block them; third turn Inwards and rid yourself of buttons to be pushed and triggers to be pulled, even tell them FUCK OFF!!! or just IGNORE THEM!!!

Reblogged this on Time Traveler on the road of Life and commented:
Unfortunately, there is very little difference between hosting companies. You probably will have to continue to remove the spammers. Either I don’t recognize them, my Eset security is blocking them or they just aren’t interested in my blog. LOL Sorry, there is always someone that wants to muck around and be mean.

They are not mean, just annoying ππ

I donβt get spam on WP (anymore) but I used to! I had to change the settings so that ONLY people with WP blogs would be allowed to comment. That got rid of 98% of the spam. Most spammers only use email and donβt have a blog.
As for those with email and a WP blog, those spammers must get approved (I always approve the first comment of a new commenter). So yes, there is a way to get rid of spam. Some people donβt like this approach because it means that relatives/people they personally know canβt leave a comment if they donβt have a blog. It stopped my aunt from commenting on my blog, for example…. but she was understanding when I told her why I have strict settings. Hope that helps!

Thank you Hilary.
I also approve every comment, but I wouldnβt like to cut off people who are not at WP… So I guess Iβll just have to keep blocking them π€·π½ββοΈπ Iβll go through the settings one more time, to see if thereβs anything else I could change.
Thanks a lot! π€

Hello. I know how annoying it is. One person actually sent me a message saying that he wanted me to send him my correct URL so he could analyse my blog traffic. Can imagine the temerity? And then I think he was trying to steal some designs from me but I only uploaded the low resolution versions poor darling.
I think there is a way for you to block the spam. If you want to do it yourself, can go to your settings and then under discussions, write the entire dictionary in the βmoderationβ menu. Fortunately, I am from a minority group so I put all of the slang and offensive words in there. Itβs a lot. Took months to compile.

That’s another useful information! Thank you!
Hope you didn’t gave any info about your blog… I don’t understand what do they gain from it? Stealing designs ? Really? The web is filled with free designs, why do they bother with us?!
Wish you all the luck with fighting them π

Thanks. That person came to my blog but he doesnβt know the URL. Apparently, heβd been writing thousands of comments all day. Thatβs why I suggest that you block them because they donβt even know who you are. Theyβre copying and pasting and moving on.

I know, they are all blocked, but the new ones keep coming π

WordPress is putting all the legit comments that come into my blog into a pending folder. My server has gone wonky today they said. In other words, there was a glitch there the entire time but theyβre only just now telling me. I believe the same glitch is responsible for your getting so much Spam. I suggest that you highlight the problem on a forum and ask them to pay attention to it.

I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I have my comments setting so I have to approve the first comment from someone new. Once they’ve commented once (with my approval), they’re good to go. I’ve had very, very few spammers. (I use the free platform too). Plus, I have very little traffic at my site (not what you would want though). I love tea and have waaayyyy too many kinds in my little kitchen. Loose tea, bags, black, herbal, medicinal, and more. We have a tea and spice shop not too far away and it’s easy for me to get carried away. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the world (northwest US).

I also approve every comment, but still my Spam folder gets full. Now that Iβm blocking them it decreased a bit, I guess thatβs the only way π€·π½ββοΈ
